Root Canal Therapy
You've probably heard the term (and feared it) often, but what exactly is a root canal therapy? Basically, it is treatment of the inner portion of the tooth occupied by 'pulp' tissue. Pulp tissue includes many nerves, but also arteries, veins, lymph vessels and connective tissues. Root canals have a bad reputation for pain, mainly because damaged or dead pulp can get infected, increasing blood flow to that area that produces pressure from inside the tooth. The bad news? The tooth will not heal by itself – and without treatment, the infection will spread. If left unattended, the tooth itself may simply fall out. If you are experiencing pain or sensitivity from actions such as biting or chewing, Drs. Goodman & West can perform the necessary tests and recommend a therapy. If root canal therapy is necessary, we will conduct the procedure with your utmost comfort in mind through our soft-touch, painless procedures.
